Courses/Teaching

I run classes around the UK teaching writing, using social media as a writer and how to get your short stories ready to send to journals and competitions. My classes have sold out at Writers Victoria in Melbourne, Waterstones Piccadilly and Word Factory in London. I have also taught at the Barbican Centre, Hampstead Theatre, Tricycle Theatre and the British Library. Internationally, I’ve given workshops in Adelaide, Bali, Bath, Belfast, Brighton, Cork, Dublin, Kinvara, Kuala Lumpur, Lancaster, Listowel, Melbourne, and Singapore.

‘Did a fantastic job of delivering such enthusiasm through the challenging interface of zoom  – not easy, I’m sure, but I thought it worked very well. I learned a lot and appreciated all the tips, suggestions and encouragement. It’s a testament to the teaching that many of us plan to meet by zoom on a regular basis in the future to help each other progress in our aims.’

Reviews from a week-long Flash Fiction Workshop in Athens for British Council and Kingston Writing School.

“A big thank you to Mr. McVeigh for all his great feedback and interest he showed on each and every participant. It was my first creative writing seminar and, since I am a new writer, it was tremendously helpful to be given important general writing tips and also be advised on my personal writing style. Not only through the openhearted feedback but also through the editing that Mr. McVeigh painstakingly did on each story we wrote! Thank you for this great experience!’
“I just wanted to take a moment to let you know how helpful the flash fiction course was this week with Paul McVeigh. As a second year graduate student I appreciated the opportunity to learn as much as I did in five days and considering the time allotted Mr. McVeigh did a great job at facilitating productive discussion and trying to ensure that students felt inclusive in the group and comfortable.  He is extremely knowledgable of his craft and has a keen eye for developing story structure. I would look forward to another workshop with Mr. McVeigh if the opportunity existed.”

  1. Dear Paul
I have just listened to your reading of the opening chapter of The Good Son and loved it.
I attended your writing class in Listowel at the end of May and was expecting some follow-up information that you promised. I have not received anything yet.

If this is all in my imagination then please forgive me.

I would love to do more writing courses with you in the UK if possible & have signed up for regular updates.

    Regards

    Helena
